Change of paradigms

Although historical comparisons to the role of the printing press as an agent of social and cultural revolutions are often attempted, when it comes to the radical social changes caused by digital media networks, there seems to be a lack of comparable social areas in which the telematic and hypermedial information and communication media can develop their full social effect: Although the required apparatus for a digitally interconnected network of the most disparate media (writing surfaces, telephone, television, video and audio components, computers...) are available, this "change of paradigm of information processing" has, beyond pragmatic optimizing and rationalizing measures - hardly changed the daily practise of most users.
